AMOS REX SS25 SHOW

Time: 17:00 – 18:00

Location: Amos Rex Museum, Lasipalatsi Courtyard, Mannerheimintie 24–25, Helsinki

On Friday 23 May, the fashion show held on the Amos Rex mounds will be a visual spectacle featuring 50 emerging designers from the new wave of Finnish fashion. The new wave of Finnish fashion is independent, progressive, and pushing the boundaries. It doesn’t come from wealth or privilege, but from creativity, courage, and freedom. We dress for necessity and for ourselves, not for others. Our modesty and the vast emptiness of the country around us fuel our creativity. Style is the canvas of our identity, our personal fingerprint. It’s the fastest way we interact with the community. The true Finnish style accumulates from the forests, the villages, the streets of Helsinki, and from within us, the people.

AMOS REX SS25 is a visual manifesto curated by Creative Director Minttu Vesala – a declaration of the new wave of Finnish fashion. The multifaceted event takes over the entire museum, showcasing a comprehensive selection of bold, artistic and experimental fashion by the emerging generation of Finnish designers. The main event, a fashion show spread across the iconic mounds of Amos Rex, is a living art exhibition in which each ensemble is a unique work of art.

AMOS REX SS25 is a celebration of creativity, freedom of expression and diversity.

Entry is free. Come as you are.

EMMA SARPANIEMI: Snake Lifter Exhibition (Ongoing, May 9th until June 1st)

Location: Helsinki Contemporary, Bulevardi 10, Helsinki

Opening times: May 9–June 1; Wed–Fri 12–18; Sat–Sun 12–16

Snake Lifter is Emma Sarpaniemi’s first solo exhibition at Helsinki Contemporary. The exhibition presents Sarpaniemi’s new series of self-portraits. Through photography, Sarpaniemi is able to transform herself into different characters and remain herself. Her works are meaningful not only as constructed images, but also as recordings of performances: what is meaningful about the images is the experience and feeling they convey. For Sarpaniemi, the camera is a tool for dealing with emotions, reflecting on the world and breaking norms. The experience of womanhood is one of the themes running through her work.

The new images emphasise an expanded colour palette, the transience of the situations depicted, the creation of different characters and the expression of emotions. Just as a snake sheds its skin every few months, Sarpaniemi reinvents herself through each character, emotion and gaze she portrays. Each self-portrait is in some way part of the artist, and photography is a constant creation of the self.
